Axel's take: 8.6/10

Old-school service and comfortable rooms make this a strong pick over newer-looking rivals. a traditional five-star city hotel in Taipei’s Zhongshan district, scored for what it is.

The Landis Taipei is a traditional five-star city hotel whose strongest selling point is attentive hospitality rather than cutting-edge design. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, clean rooms and comfortable beds; Booking.com’s ratings reinforce that picture. We'd choose it for a well-run, comfortable base with French and Hangzhou dining, neighborhood eateries and an MRT station within walking distance.

The trade-off is age: several guests find the furnishings dated, even while describing them as well maintained. Entry-level Superior rooms are compact for this class; Deluxe rooms offer considerably more space. Breakfast generally earns praise, but isn't universally admired. A June 2026 guest reported exterior renovation; its current status isn't confirmed, so check before booking. Bring your own toothbrush and toothpaste. We'd skip it if contemporary interiors and expansive entry-level rooms are central to your idea of five-star comfort.

• Best for: travelers who prioritize attentive service; business travelers; couples who enjoy traditional hotels

• Watch out for: dated furnishings in some rooms; compact entry-level Superior rooms; confirm whether exterior work has finished

• Location: Zhongshan neighborhood with plenty of eateries; Zhongshan Elementary School MRT is roughly a six-minute walk.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds; Superior rooms are about 26 square meters, versus about 43 for Deluxe rooms.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Expedia and recent guest accounts.

• Service: Helpful reception, concierge and door staff are the clearest recurring positives.

• Amenities: French and Hangzhou restaurants, fitness facilities and complimentary Wi-Fi; breakfast inclusion depends on the booking.

• Fees and surprises: Bring personal disposable toiletries; June 2026 exterior work was reported, but completion is unverified.
