Axel's take: 8.8/10

Skyline views and standout service impress, but current renovations warrant caution. a five-star high-rise luxury hotel above Pudong’s IFC mall, scored for what it is.

The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai, Pudong is a five-star high-rise hotel whose strongest assets are its skyline views and unusually personal service. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, immaculate rooms and thoughtful touches. Above the IFC mall, with Lujiazui’s towers close by, it’s a strong pick for Pudong business trips or a skyline-focused celebration. The indoor pool, spa and Flair rooftop bar give you reasons to linger.

The immediate caveat is construction: Booking.com lists renovations to the first-floor lobby and retail areas and third-floor banquet space from October 1, 2026 through September 30, 2027. Confirm likely disruption before committing. Club Lounge access requires an eligible booking, not just Bonvoy status, and room categories have different views. We’d skip it during the works if an undisturbed luxury stay is essential.

• Best for: Pudong business travelers; Skyline-focused celebrations; Luxury shoppers

• Watch out for: Lobby, retail and banquet renovations through September 2027; Club Lounge access requires an eligible booking; Book the specific view you want

• Location: Above IFC mall in Lujiazui, convenient for Pudong landmarks and metro access.

• Rooms: Art Deco styling, generous space and category-dependent skyline views; recent guests praise comfort.

• Cleanliness: Consistently strong cleanliness feedback across Tripadvisor, Expedia and Booking.com.

• Service: Warm, attentive staff and personalized touches are recurring strengths in recent reviews.

• Amenities: Heated indoor pool, spa, 24-hour gym, restaurants and Flair rooftop bar.

• Fees and surprises: Parking costs extra; Club access requires an eligible booking; lower-floor renovations are scheduled through September 30, 2027.
