Axel's take: 8.4/10

A strong central base for apartment space and practicality, rather than hotel polish. a central 4-star serviced-apartment hotel, scored for what it is.

Riverdale is a central 4-star serviced-apartment hotel, and we'd pick it for a longer Shanghai stay rather than a luxury escape. Booking.com, Trip.com and Tripadvisor guests consistently praise the spacious apartments, useful kitchens, in-room washer-dryers and convenient location near Xintiandi and several metro stations. Recent feedback is also strongly positive about cleanliness and helpful staff. It's a practical choice for families and travelers who want room to settle in.

The trade-off is polish: dated furnishings recur across sites, while breakfast draws limited enthusiasm and Wi-Fi attracts repeated complaints. A June 2026 Hotels.com guest reported nearby demolition and early-morning machinery; whether that disruption continues is unconfirmed. Booking.com guests also reported Mayita restaurant closed in late 2025 and April 2026, and current pool availability is unclear. We'd skip it if dependable work calls, extensive facilities or a freshly finished room are priorities.

• Best for: families wanting apartment space; longer stays with cooking and laundry; independent city explorers

• Watch out for: dated furnishings and basic breakfast; inconsistent Wi-Fi; nearby demolition reported in June 2026

• Location: Central Huangpu base, with Xintiandi, shopping and several metro stations within walking distance.

• Rooms: Generously sized apartments with kitchens and washer-dryers; furnishings show some age.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback and high cleanliness ratings, rather than a recurring pattern of problems.

• Service: Helpful reception and housekeeping receive broad praise, with occasional reports of less welcoming interactions.

• Amenities: Gym available; breakfast gets mixed feedback, Mayita has closure reports, and pool operation is unverified.

• Fees and surprises: Parking costs extra; the supplied Accor website belongs to a different hotel, not Riverdale.
