#7 of 7 hotels in The Bund by Axel's take. The Bund is #3 of 8 places to stay in Shanghai. The best hotels in The Bund, ranked · Where to stay in Shanghai

Axel's take: 7.8/10

Choose it for the skyline views, not consistently polished five-star service. a large five-star riverfront hotel at the northern end of the Bund, scored for what it is.

Hyatt on the Bund is a large five-star riverfront hotel whose strongest selling point is the view across historic Shanghai and Pudong. It's a good pick for a first visit if you book a specific Bund or Pearl Tower view category. Following its late-2024 reopening after renovation, guests on Tripadvisor and Expedia frequently praise spacious rooms, comfortable beds and helpful staff. The indoor pool, spa and rooftop VUE Bar round out the appeal.

The catch is consistency rather than a lack of facilities. Alongside plenty of satisfied guests, recent reviews repeatedly describe uneven front-desk service, housekeeping lapses and rooms that still show wear; some report smoke or bathroom odors. Breakfast offers broad choice but can get crowded. The waterfront is close, but metro access is less convenient. We'd skip it if seamless luxury service or easy subway access matters more than the skyline.

  • Best for: first-time visitors prioritizing skyline views; couples booking a view room; travelers wanting full hotel facilities

  • Watch out for: uneven service and housekeeping; view depends on the room category; less convenient metro access

  • Location: Good for Bund walks and river views; less convenient for frequent metro trips.

  • Rooms: Spacious with comfortable beds; layouts, outlooks and reported condition vary.

  • Cleanliness: Mostly positive feedback, but repeated bathroom and odor complaints deserve attention.

  • Service: Many warm staff mentions, offset by recurring check-in and problem-handling complaints.

  • Amenities: Indoor 25-meter pool, gym, spa, several restaurants and rooftop VUE Bar.

  • Fees and surprises: Breakfast and club access depend on your booking; confirm the deposit and exact view category.
