Axel's take: 8.6/10

A strong riverfront pick for historic character and welcoming service, with noise and fee trade-offs. a historic 4-star boutique hotel on Savannah’s riverfront, scored for what it is.

River Street Inn is a historic 4-star boutique hotel in a converted cotton warehouse, and a strong pick for exploring Savannah on foot. Its exposed brick, traditional furnishings and river-view rooms offer more character than a standard chain hotel. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff, comfortable rooms and cleanliness. The daily manager’s reception adds a sociable touch.

The main compromise is quiet: guests report traffic, nightlife and sound carrying between rooms, although not everyone is disturbed. A mandatory destination fee and separate valet charge also take the shine off the value; breakfast is extra unless included in your booking. Nearby Thomas Gamble Building renovations have caused intermittent access closures, so check ahead. We’d skip it if silence, a pool or sleek, consistently modern rooms matter most.

• Best for: couples who enjoy historic hotels; first-time Savannah visitors; sightseeing without a car

• Watch out for: street and neighboring-room noise; destination fee and paid valet; nearby construction-related access changes

• Location: Walkable riverfront base near restaurants and historic squares; vehicle arrivals use East Bay Street.

• Rooms: Traditional rooms with distinctive historic details; reserve a river view explicitly, and expect variable soundproofing.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall guest feedback, with occasional housekeeping and room-condition complaints rather than a dominant pattern.

• Service: Welcoming, helpful staff are a consistent strength; some guests report valet delays.

• Amenities: Daily manager’s reception, fitness room and on-site dining; no pool, and breakfast is generally extra.

• Fees and surprises: Mandatory destination fee plus separate valet parking; overnight valet retrieval requires advance arrangements.
