Axel's take: 7.4/10

Friendly staff and a strong breakfast help offset uneven room upkeep. A budget 2-star hotel and conference center off I-95 in Pooler, scored for what it is.

Cottonwood Suites is a budget 2-star hotel and conference center in Pooler, better suited to an I-95 stopover than a walkable Savannah vacation. We'd consider it for the included breakfast, free parking and friendly service: recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the staff, and breakfast earns unusually enthusiastic feedback for this class. The outdoor pool is another useful extra, while many guests describe spacious, comfortable rooms.

The catch is consistency. Alongside clean-room reports, recent guests describe dated bathrooms, mildew, musty corridors and missed maintenance. Updates mentioned by guests haven't eliminated those differences, so we'd check the assigned room before unpacking. There is no elevator; request a ground-floor room if stairs are difficult. It's a reasonable budget option for travelers with a car, but we'd skip it for reliably polished rooms or doorstep access to historic Savannah.

• Best for: I-95 road-trip stopovers; Budget travelers with a car; Pet owners

• Watch out for: Uneven bathroom maintenance and cleanliness; Musty odors reported in some areas; No elevator

• Location: Off I-95 in Pooler, five miles from the airport; Savannah sightseeing requires a drive.

• Rooms: Often described as spacious and comfortable, but condition varies between rooms.

• Cleanliness: Many positive reports, with recurring exceptions involving floors, bathrooms and mildew.

• Service: Friendly front-desk and breakfast staff are consistent strengths; maintenance follow-through is less reliable.

• Amenities: Free breakfast, Wi-Fi and parking; outdoor pool, gym and meeting facilities—not a verified indoor pool.

• Fees and surprises: Expedia lists a stay deposit; pets incur additional charges and a pet deposit.
