Axel's take: 8.3/10

A strong city-and-beach combination, but not a beachfront Ritz. a 5-star downtown waterfront hotel with a separate beach club, scored for what it is.

This 5-star waterfront hotel works best as a downtown Sarasota base with beach privileges, rather than a toes-in-the-sand resort. We'd pick it for the combination of downtown dining, comfortable balcony rooms and the private Lido Key Beach Club. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise welcoming staff and cleanliness; Booking.com guests also single out the beach club.

The catch is geography: the beach club is three miles away, with a complimentary hourly shuttle. Room wear and uneven service appear in some recent feedback, though praise remains substantially stronger overall. Resort and valet charges also deserve attention at this level. Nearby Ritz-Carlton Residences construction at The Quay was still progressing in September 2026; ask about your room's exposure. We'd skip it if direct beach access or consistently polished luxury is nonnegotiable.

• Best for: couples combining downtown dining and beach days; families comfortable with a beach shuttle; travelers who prefer a city base

• Watch out for: beach club three miles away; hourly shuttle; resort and valet charges; some room wear and service inconsistency

• Location: Downtown waterfront setting, not beachfront; the Lido Key Beach Club is three miles away.

• Rooms: Private balconies and marble-trimmed bathrooms; comfort earns praise, but some guests report dated finishes.

• Cleanliness: A strong overall signal: Expedia rates cleanliness 9.6/10 and Booking.com 8.8/10.

• Service: Warm staff earn frequent praise, with some reports of slow pool service and check-in lapses.

• Amenities: Two heated pools, a spa, dining and beach-club access; Club Lounge access requires an upgraded booking.

• Fees and surprises: Resort fee and paid valet apply; nearby Quay residences remained under construction in September 2026, with room-level impact unverified.
