#9 of 9 hotels in Paseo Colón & La Sabana by Axel's take. Paseo Colón & La Sabana is #4 of 8 places to stay in San Jose, Costa Rica. The best hotels in Paseo Colón & La Sabana, ranked · Where to stay in San Jose, Costa Rica

Axel's take: 6.8/10

Come for the sports facilities, not the bedrooms. a simple 3-star hotel inside a busy sports club near La Sabana, scored for what it is.

Costa Rica Tennis Club & Hotel is a simple 3-star inside a working sports club near La Sabana Park. It's a sensible pick if you'll use the tennis courts, lap pool and gym: those facilities are the reason to choose it over an ordinary budget hotel. Recent Expedia and Google guests repeatedly praise the friendly staff and generally clean rooms, while the location suits park visits and stadium events.

The bedrooms are the compromise. Across several sites, guests describe dated furniture, bathrooms and bedding; recent reports also flag uncomfortable beds and worn towels. Included breakfast is basic, with limited variety. We'd consider it for an active, no-frills stay, but skip it if fresh interiors and dependable bedroom comfort matter more than recreation. Confirm arrival arrangements if you'll reach reception after 8 p.m.

  • Best for: tennis players and swimmers; budget-minded active travelers; stadium-event visitors

  • Watch out for: dated rooms and worn bedding; basic, repetitive breakfast; late arrivals need advance confirmation

  • Location: Near La Sabana Park and the National Stadium, rather than in the historic downtown core.

  • Rooms: Simple and often spacious, but dated bathrooms, furnishings and uneven bed comfort recur in reviews.

  • Cleanliness: Recent guests mostly describe clean rooms; visible wear is a more consistent issue than housekeeping.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful hotel staff are a recurring strength; restaurant service gets more mixed feedback.

  • Amenities: Tennis, squash, padel, a lap pool and gym make the club facilities the main attraction; standard breakfast is included.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking is listed as free; airport transfers and late check-in cost extra. Direct quotes exclude tax, and extra-person charges can apply.
