#5 of 5 hotels in Escazú by Axel's take. Escazú is #5 of 8 places to stay in San Jose, Costa Rica. The best hotels in Escazú, ranked · Where to stay in San Jose, Costa Rica

Axel's take: 7.9/10

Come for the welcoming pool-and-bar atmosphere, not uniformly polished rooms. a small, LGBTQ+-welcoming adults-only 3-star hotel in residential Rohrmoser, scored for what it is.

Colours is a small, adults-only 3-star hotel with LGBTQ+ roots, welcoming open-minded travelers rather than offering a full-scale resort experience. It's a good pick for sociable guests who value personal attention over polished interiors. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the friendly staff, pool, bar and food; the residential Rohrmoser setting also suits visits to the U.S. Embassy.

Room choice matters: the hotel's own descriptions identify compact rooms and some with only interior light wells. Recent feedback ranges from cheerful and refreshed to dated, with maintenance complaints and two 2026 Expedia reports of cockroaches, despite predominantly positive cleanliness ratings. We'd request an exterior-window room and confirm its condition before booking. Skip it if consistent room standards or walking access to downtown sightseeing matter more than the welcoming atmosphere.

  • Best for: LGBTQ+ travelers and open-minded adults; Sociable pool-and-bar stays; U.S. Embassy visitors

  • Watch out for: Uneven room condition and recent pest reports; Some rooms lack exterior windows; Outside the downtown sightseeing core

  • Location: Residential Rohrmoser, convenient for the U.S. Embassy; downtown sightseeing requires transport.

  • Rooms: Layouts vary substantially; some are compact or face interior light wells, and maintenance feedback is mixed.

  • Cleanliness: Mostly positive overall, but two Expedia guests reported cockroaches in April and June 2026.

  • Service: Warm, helpful staff are the clearest recurring strength across guest-review sites.

  • Amenities: Small outdoor pool, bar, restaurant and Wi-Fi; think intimate guesthouse atmosphere, not extensive resort facilities.

  • Fees and surprises: Expedia lists breakfast and early or late check-in/out as extras; confirm what's included.
