Axel's take: 8.6/10

A strong airport stopover with resort grounds, though rooms don’t always match the setting. an upscale hacienda-style resort near San José’s airport, scored for what it is.

This upscale hacienda-style resort in Belén is a strong pick for starting or finishing a Costa Rica trip without settling for a basic airport hotel. Landscaped grounds, outdoor pools, a spa and several dining options give you reasons to linger. Expedia guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff and clean, comfortable rooms; Booking.com’s cleanliness and comfort scores reinforce that picture. We’d choose it for a relaxing stopover rather than sightseeing in central San José.

The setting outshines some bedrooms: Tripadvisor guests describe dated finishes, and noise complaints also appear on Expedia. On-site dining can feel expensive, especially when you rely on the hotel for most meals. The complimentary airport shuttle requires advance reservations and runs on a timetable, not around the clock. Skip it if you want walkable city attractions, contemporary luxury throughout or reliably quiet rooms.

• Best for: comfortable airport stopovers; families wanting pools and gardens; business travelers who prefer resort surroundings

• Watch out for: dated finishes and variable soundproofing; costly on-site dining; scheduled airport shuttle requiring reservations

• Location: In Belén near SJO airport, not central San José; better suited to transfers than sightseeing on foot.

• Rooms: Generally spacious and comfortable, but some guests report worn finishes and hallway or neighboring-room noise.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Expedia and Booking.com, despite occasional individual lapses.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff earn frequent praise; some Tripadvisor guests report slow check-in and responses.

• Amenities: Outdoor pools, whirlpool, spa, gym, tennis and a golf driving range—not a full golf course.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast is not always included; overnight self-parking is complimentary for one vehicle per room, while valet costs extra.
