Hotels in Sacramentoa small, historic 3-star boutique hotel and wedding venue in downtown Sacramento
7.0/10
Victorian character and roomy accommodations, but limited staffing makes this a qualified pick.
The Sterling is a 16-room Victorian boutique hotel and wedding venue, not a full-service retreat. We'd consider it for a short downtown stay if character and space matter more than round-the-clock attention. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean, generous rooms, comfortable beds and the convenient location near the convention center. Large bathrooms and jetted tubs are part of the appeal, although some fixtures show their age.
The main compromise is service coverage: the hotel confirms daytime-only front desk hours and promotes digital check-in. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests have reported key-access problems, while maintenance complaints include inconsistent cooling and shower temperatures. Parking is off-site, and breakfast isn't a dependable offering. It's a reasonable fit for independent travelers and on-site wedding guests; we'd skip it if reliable late-night assistance or consistently updated rooms are priorities.

Best for: independent travelers who like historic buildings; guests attending on-site weddings; short convention-center stays
Watch out for: limited front desk hours and reported key problems; uneven bathroom and room maintenance; off-site parking
Location: Walkable downtown base near the convention center, theaters and restaurants.
Rooms: Often spacious and comfortable, with Victorian styling; fixtures and maintenance vary.
Cleanliness: Recent Expedia feedback is largely positive, though Tripadvisor includes housekeeping failures.
Service: Staff receive praise when available; official front desk hours are 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, large tubs and event spaces; guest reports flag weak internet and no breakfast.
Fees and surprises: No on-site parking; use metered streets or a separately operated nearby garage.
