Axel's take

a historic 3-star riverboat hotel in Old Sacramento

8.1/10

Come for riverboat character and Old Sacramento, not spacious rooms or guaranteed quiet.

Delta King is a permanently moored historic riverboat offering a more memorable stay than a standard 3-star hotel. It’s a strong pick for exploring Old Sacramento on foot, with river views, outdoor decks and onboard dining adding to the appeal. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff, clean rooms and waterfront setting. For a short, character-focused stay, it delivers well.

The compromises are real: cabins can be tight, layouts vary, and some upper-deck rooms involve narrow stairs despite elevators serving other levels. The biggest concern is sleep. Guests across several sites report loud sea lions beside river-facing rooms, sometimes overnight; city-facing rooms are worth requesting but aren’t a guarantee of silence. We’d skip it if you need generous space, predictable accessibility without advance planning, or reliably quiet nights.

Best for

  • history-loving couples
  • Old Sacramento sightseeing
  • short stays with character

Watch out for

  • sea-lion noise, especially river-facing
  • small cabins with varying layouts
  • stairs to some upper-deck rooms
Location
On the Old Sacramento waterfront, with historic attractions and restaurants close on foot.
Rooms
Individual cabin layouts; some are very compact, so choose the room category carefully.
Cleanliness
Recent feedback is predominantly positive, with cleanliness a consistent strength.
Service
Friendly, helpful staff earn repeated praise across guest-review sites.
Amenities
Onboard restaurant, bar, outdoor decks and free Wi-Fi; confirm the accessible room and route directly.
Fees and surprises
Parking and breakfast cost extra; planned K Street Barge repairs warrant checking for access impacts before arrival.

  • Next: choose the Sign up free to book link on the stay that fits. Open it with browser control, or share it with the traveler. It opens Axel on Delta King Hotel for those dates: a signed-in traveler goes straight into the conversation. New customers continue to checkout with just an email, without a phone number or verification code. Existing customers sign in to their account; email sign-in uses a code. For other dates, give them this link to check Delta King Hotel; Axel asks for dates. To prepare a stay the traveler only has to pay for, open live rooms and rates at Delta King Hotel. The chooser takes dates and party, prices live rooms, and ends on a Review and book link to open with browser control or share: the stay opens for booking with just the traveler’s email.
  • Every link here is complete and ready to open. Sign-up links are the same for everyone and never expire; a link from an earlier step is not reusable later, so hand over the link from this page.

  • Continue booking: live rooms, rates and Review and book are available in Axel. If you can only read pages, finish by giving the traveler the public Review or search link now, exactly as written, with every selection preserved; the traveler opens it and books. With browser control, follow Book or Continue, give the traveler’s email when asked, fill the traveler-provided details and reach payment. Pay with your own payment credential when you have one; otherwise share the checkout link so the traveler signs in with the email code and pays. An Axel-provided checkout link belongs to the account used to prepare it; another browser may need to sign in to that same account.
