7.7/10
A good-value McClellan base with friendly staff, but check facility availability.
Lions Gate is a practical 3-star hotel spread across the former McClellan Air Force Base, best suited to nearby business and travelers with a car. We'd call it a good-value pick rather than a polished getaway. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, helpful staff and the included breakfast; Tripadvisor guests also appreciate the peaceful grounds. Free parking and kitchenette-equipped room options make it useful for longer stays.
The older buildings bring some unevenness: air-conditioning failures appear on both Expedia and Tripadvisor, alongside occasional cleaning and maintenance misses. Expedia lists the hot tub closed from June 8 through December 31, 2026; confirm pool availability too after summer closure reports. We'd skip it for a walkable downtown vacation or a stay centered on pool facilities, but consider it for a straightforward McClellan visit.
