#4 of 6 hotels in Downtown Norfolk by Axel's take. Downtown Norfolk is #1 of 6 places to stay in Norfolk. The best hotels in Downtown Norfolk, ranked · Where to stay in Norfolk

Axel's take: 7.9/10

Pick it for the waterfront location and friendly staff, not the freshest rooms. a full-service mid-range hotel on downtown Norfolk’s waterfront, scored for what it is.

This full-service mid-range Sheraton is a good downtown base, with the Elizabeth River outside and Waterside District restaurants a short walk away. We’d pick it for waterfront sightseeing or a pre-cruise night rather than a special hotel experience. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise helpful staff and clean rooms; harbor-facing rooms give the location an extra payoff.

The trade-off is a hotel that can feel dated rather than polished. Parking adds expense, and self-parking means walking from a separate garage; breakfast also costs extra unless included in your booking. The restaurant, gym and seasonal outdoor pool cover the main full-service basics. It’s a sensible choice if location matters most, but we’d skip it if you want contemporary interiors or breakfast and parking included.

  • Best for: pre-cruise stays; downtown waterfront sightseeing; business and event travelers

  • Watch out for: some dated rooms and interiors; paid parking in a separate garage or through valet; breakfast usually costs extra

  • Location: Directly on the riverwalk, near Waterside District, Town Point Park and cruise departures.

  • Rooms: Comfortable rather than cutting-edge; harbor views are a strong reason to choose carefully.

  • Cleanliness: Generally a strength, supported by recent guest feedback and solid category ratings.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful staff earn repeated praise, though problem handling is not universally consistent.

  • Amenities: Restaurant, gym, seasonal outdoor pool and a club lounge with restricted access; no airport shuttle.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking, breakfast and pets bring extra charges; direct-booking Bonvoy members receive complimentary in-room Wi-Fi.
