Axel's take: 7.7/10

Generous suites and welcoming staff make up for uneven upkeep. A practical 3-star, all-suite extended-stay hotel near Norfolk Airport, scored for what it is.

This 3-star airport-area Residence Inn is a good pick for families and longer stays that need space rather than polish. Full kitchens, separate living areas and complimentary hot breakfast make the suites genuinely useful. Recent Expedia and Hotels.com guests repeatedly praise friendly staff and clean rooms, while Tripadvisor guests also appreciate the comfortable beds and family-friendly amenities.

The catch is inconsistent condition. Marriott advertises renovated suites, and some recent guests notice the improvements, but others still describe worn sofas, tired bathrooms and maintenance problems. Cleanliness is generally well rated, though upholstery and bathroom cleaning draw some criticism. Aircraft noise can bother light sleepers. Parking costs extra, and Marriott explicitly says there is no airport shuttle. We'd choose it for kitchen-equipped space and helpful service, but skip it for reliably fresh interiors or a car-free airport stop.

• Best for: Families needing extra space; Longer stays with self-catering; Airport travelers with a car

• Watch out for: Uneven room upkeep; Aircraft noise; Paid parking and no airport shuttle

• Location: About two miles from Norfolk Airport; better suited to driving than a downtown sightseeing stay.

• Rooms: Spacious kitchen-equipped suites; renovation praise sits alongside reports of worn furniture and maintenance issues.

• Cleanliness: Mostly positive recent feedback, with some complaints about upholstery and bathroom cleaning.

• Service: Friendly, welcoming staff are the clearest recurring strength across review sites.

• Amenities: Complimentary hot breakfast, indoor pool, fitness center, sports court and guest laundry.

• Fees and surprises: Parking and pets carry extra charges; pet size limits apply, and Marriott lists housekeeping every other day.
