Axel's take: 7.8/10

Come for the river views and friendly staff, not flawless upkeep. an upscale, full-service waterfront hotel in Olde Towne Portsmouth, scored for what it is.

This upscale, full-service hotel is in Olde Towne Portsmouth, not downtown Norfolk, with Elizabeth River views and a nearby ferry across the water. It’s a good pick for travelers who value the setting over immaculate polish. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the views, helpful staff and comfortable rooms, while the restaurant, bar and indoor pool make it convenient for a short break or conference stay.

Marriott advertises renovated rooms and public spaces, but several 2026 Expedia guests still describe dated rooms or areas needing attention. Tripadvisor adds recurring housekeeping complaints, although overall cleanliness ratings remain strong. Parking costs extra, and breakfast is not automatically included. We’d choose it for a waterfront Portsmouth stay; we’d skip it if consistently polished rooms and dependable housekeeping matter more than location.

• Best for: waterfront weekend breaks; Olde Towne sightseeing; conference travelers

• Watch out for: uneven room upkeep; housekeeping inconsistencies; paid parking and breakfast extras

• Location: In historic Portsmouth, with river views and a nearby ferry to downtown Norfolk.

• Rooms: Comfort draws praise, but recent guests still report dated finishes despite advertised renovations.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall ratings, tempered by repeated Tripadvisor complaints about housekeeping.

• Service: Friendly staff are a consistent strength; problem handling receives more mixed feedback.

• Amenities: Indoor pool, fitness center, restaurant, bar and extensive meeting space.

• Fees and surprises: Self-parking costs extra; check breakfast inclusion and Wi-Fi eligibility for your booking.
