Axel's take: 8.1/10

A strong pick for Navy visits, with welcoming staff and a pool caveat. a simple, budget-friendly chain hotel near Naval Station Norfolk, scored for what it is.

This simple, budget-friendly Hampton is a strong pick for visiting Naval Station Norfolk rather than sightseeing downtown. Expedia and Google guests repeatedly praise the friendly staff, hot breakfast and clean rooms, while newer reviews welcome the renovated bedrooms. Free parking, Wi-Fi, microwaves and mini-fridges make it a practical choice for families and work trips without paying for extras you may not need.

The main caveat is the renovation history: guests reported construction dust and disrupted common areas through June 2026, although a July Expedia review praises the improvements. Confirm whether any work remains before booking. More importantly, guests report that the indoor pool was removed, and Hilton no longer advertises one. We'd skip it for a swimming-focused family stay or a downtown break without a car; for base access and straightforward comfort, it makes sense.

• Best for: families visiting Navy personnel; work trips near the naval station; drivers wanting breakfast and parking included

• Watch out for: indoor pool reportedly removed; confirm renovation work has finished; downtown sightseeing requires a drive

• Location: Convenient for Naval Station Norfolk, with nearby dining; downtown attractions are about a twenty-minute drive away.

• Rooms: Renovated rooms draw positive feedback; microwaves and mini-fridges are standard.

• Cleanliness: Generally well rated, with construction-related dust complaints during the renovation.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are the most consistent strength across guest-review sources.

• Amenities: Free hot breakfast, Wi-Fi, parking and a gym; do not count on a pool or airport shuttle.

• Fees and surprises: Pets incur a nonrefundable fee; confirm remaining construction and current facilities directly.
