#2 of 9 hotels in Le Port by Axel's take. Le Port is #3 of 6 places to stay in Nice. The best hotels in Le Port, ranked · Where to stay in Nice

Axel's take: 8.5/10

A fun Nice base with standout staff, but cooling needs improvement. a playful, design-led 4-star in Nice’s Riquier neighborhood, scored for what it is.

Mama Shelter Nice is a playful, design-led 4-star in Riquier, better suited to a sociable city break than a traditional luxury stay. We'd pick it for the rooftop pool, comfortable beds and genuinely helpful staff. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise cleanliness, while recent Accor reviews reinforce the warm welcome. Nearby Nice-Riquier station makes Riviera day trips easy, though this isn't a beachfront address.

The main reservation is cooling: guests across several sites report warm rooms, and management confirms centrally controlled air-conditioning with a minimum setting of 22°C. Smaller rooms can feel tight, with limited clothes storage. The unheated rooftop pool operates April through October, and the restaurant hosts late DJ nights. It's a strong choice for couples and friends who enjoy a lively atmosphere; we'd skip it if you need a reliably chilly bedroom or full-service luxury.

  • Best for: couples on a sociable city break; friends who enjoy lively bars; Riviera day trips by train

  • Watch out for: centrally controlled cooling and recurring warm-room complaints; compact rooms with limited storage; unheated, seasonal rooftop pool

  • Location: Handy for Nice-Riquier station and the port; expect a walk to Old Town and the waterfront.

  • Rooms: Comfortable beds and bold design; smaller categories lack space, and cooling draws repeated complaints.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Expedia and recent Accor guest feedback.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful reception staff repeatedly earn praise; traditional room service is not offered.

  • Amenities: Rooftop pool, restaurant and lively bars; pool access is included for residents, April–October.

  • Fees and surprises: City tax is extra; paid parking is limited and cannot be reserved; kettles are available on request.
