#9 of 9 hotels in Place Masséna & Jean Médecin by Axel's take. Place Masséna & Jean Médecin is #1 of 6 places to stay in Nice. The best hotels in Place Masséna & Jean Médecin, ranked · Where to stay in Nice

Axel's take: 7.3/10

A convenient Nice base, but the rooms don't consistently deliver four-star polish. a traditional 4-star city hotel in central Nice, scored for what it is.

Hotel Nice Riviera is a traditional 4-star city hotel whose strongest selling point is its location, not its finish. We'd consider it for a sightseeing break: shops, trams, Place Masséna and the old town are within easy walking distance, with the beach roughly ten minutes away. Booking.com and Expedia guests regularly praise comfortable beds, clean rooms and helpful staff, making this a practical base rather than a hotel to build a holiday around.

The compromise is uneven upkeep. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia reviews repeatedly mention dated décor, worn flooring and bathrooms needing attention, although many guests report comfortable stays. The small indoor pool requires reservations, and pool and sauna access can cost extra; check exactly what your booking includes. We'd skip it if you want freshly renovated interiors, consistently polished service or a spa-focused stay.

Best for: couples on sightseeing breaks; travelers exploring without a car; families wanting a central base
Watch out for: dated rooms and uneven maintenance; reserved pool sessions and access charges; inconsistent four-star polish
Location: Central and walkable, close to shopping and trams; near the beach rather than beachfront.
Rooms: Comfortable beds are a strength, but décor, flooring and bathroom condition vary.
Cleanliness: Generally well rated, with recurring complaints about cleaning detail and bathroom upkeep.
Service: Helpful staff earn frequent praise, though reception experiences are not consistently warm.
Amenities: Small indoor heated pool, sauna, breakfast buffet, bar and private underground parking.
Fees and surprises: Parking and sauna cost extra; pool use is booked by the hour unless included in your reservation.
