#3 of 4 hotels in Vieux Nice (Old Town) by Axel's take. Vieux Nice (Old Town) is #4 of 6 places to stay in Nice. The best hotels in Vieux Nice (Old Town), ranked · Where to stay in Nice

Axel's take: 8.6/10

A distinctive luxury retreat whose setting outshines occasionally uneven service. a five-star former convent in Nice’s pedestrian Old Town, scored for what it is.

Hôtel du Couvent is a five-star former convent in Nice’s Old Town, and it’s a strong pick for travelers who prefer understated design to Riviera glamour. The restored buildings, terraced gardens, city-view lap pool and Roman baths give it real character. Booking.com and Expedia guests rate cleanliness and comfort particularly highly, while recent Tripadvisor reviews repeatedly praise the peaceful grounds and welcoming staff. We’d choose it for a restful city break with restaurants and sightseeing close by.

The reservation is service consistency: alongside enthusiastic reports, recent guests on multiple sites describe slow restaurant or front-desk service. Some also find breakfast inclusions limited for this level. The hillside grounds involve stairs, and cars cannot reach the entrance directly; arrange the hotel’s buggy assistance before arriving. We’d skip it if effortless access or reliably seamless luxury service matters more than atmosphere.

  • Best for: couples seeking a quiet city break; design and historic-building enthusiasts; travelers who prioritize pools and spa time

  • Watch out for: hillside stairs and pedestrian-only arrival; occasionally slow service; breakfast inclusions and extras

  • Location: Central Old Town setting near restaurants and sights; coordinate luggage transfers before arrival.

  • Rooms: Understated, individually furnished rooms with strong comfort ratings; layouts and storage vary.

  • Cleanliness: A clear strength across Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor ratings.

  • Service: Often warm and attentive, but recurring reports of slow dining and front-desk responses matter at this level.

  • Amenities: Garden lap pool, Roman baths, movement studio and several dining venues; baths are restricted to ages 16 and over.

  • Fees and surprises: Valet parking and pets incur charges; check breakfast inclusions rather than assuming everything is covered.
