#3 of 9 hotels in Place Masséna & Jean Médecin by Axel's take. Place Masséna & Jean Médecin is #1 of 6 places to stay in Nice. The best hotels in Place Masséna & Jean Médecin, ranked · Where to stay in Nice

Axel's take: 8.9/10

A strong central budget pick, with standout staff and genuinely small rooms. a compact 2-star city hotel near Nice-Ville station, scored for what it is.

Hotel du Centre is a compact 2-star that gets the important things right: a handy location, well-equipped rooms and unusually attentive service. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff and cleanliness, while Booking.com’s ratings reinforce those strengths. It’s a strong pick for exploring Nice and taking Riviera day trips by train. In-room coffee machines and mini-fridges add practical comfort beyond the basics.

The main compromise is space: the hotel lists economy doubles at just 9 square metres, and standard doubles at 12. Choose a superior room if you’ll spend much time indoors. Some guests mention corridor noise, church bells or early street activity, although others report quiet nights. Breakfast costs extra unless included in your booking, and parking is off-site and paid. We’d skip it for a spacious, hushed seaside stay.

Best for: couples packing light; Riviera day-trippers using trains; car-free city breaks
Watch out for: very small entry-level rooms; possible corridor noise and church bells; paid off-site parking
Location: Opposite Notre-Dame Basilica, roughly five minutes from Nice-Ville station and 15 minutes from the beach.
Rooms: Renovated, compact rooms with coffee machines and mini-fridges; some superior rooms have basilica-facing balconies.
Cleanliness: Consistently strong feedback across Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor.
Service: Warm, helpful staff are the clearest recurring strength; reception operates around the clock.
Amenities: Air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a small lift, luggage storage and HUG Café with terrace seating.
Fees and surprises: Breakfast may be extra; parking is at nearby Q-Park Notre Dame, not on-site.
