Axel's take: 8.6/10

A comfortable city base with strong service, compact rooms and roadwork outside. a modern design-led 4-star between downtown and Old Montreal, scored for what it is.

Hotel Monville is a modern, design-led 4-star that gets the city-break essentials right. We'd pick it for exploring downtown and Old Montreal on foot, or attending the nearby Palais des congrès. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and helpful staff; Booking.com’s strong cleanliness and comfort scores reinforce that picture. The rooftop terrace and well-equipped gym add substance beyond the sleek styling.

The main compromise is space: several guests find the rooms small, with limited storage. Breakfast and valet parking cost extra unless included in your package. More importantly, the hotel currently warns that municipal work has closed Bleury Street to traffic; confirm arrival and valet instructions before driving. We'd skip a standard room if spreading out matters more than a central location.

• Best for: couples on city breaks; convention travelers; sightseers traveling without a car

• Watch out for: Bleury Street roadwork and traffic closure; compact rooms and limited storage; breakfast and valet parking extras

• Location: Walkable between downtown, Chinatown and Old Montreal, with the convention center and metro nearby.

• Rooms: Modern and comfortable; compact layouts are a recurring drawback, so consider a suite for more space.

• Cleanliness: Consistently strong across recent guest feedback and Booking.com’s category ratings.

• Service: Recent reviews predominantly praise friendly, helpful staff, despite occasional service lapses.

• Amenities: Rooftop terrace, 24-hour gym, Monème restaurant and bar; housekeeping is on request.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast, valet and pets carry extra charges; a nightly security deposit applies, and roadwork affects vehicle access.
