Axel's take: 8.0/10

A practical Montreal base that delivers on cleanliness, space and location, not polish. a no-frills 3-star with apartment-style suites near Berri-UQAM, scored for what it is.

Le Roberval is a no-frills 3-star with studios and apartment-style suites, and we'd shortlist it for a practical Montreal city break. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, helpful staff and easy access to Berri-UQAM metro and Old Montreal. Most studios and suites have kitchenettes, while the included continental breakfast makes mornings simpler. It's especially useful for families and longer stays that prioritize space and self-catering over style.

The trade-off is an older building: dated furnishings recur in reviews, and sofa-bed comfort draws complaints across several sites. Some guests also report street sirens or loud air conditioning, although others find their rooms quiet. Parking costs extra, is first-come at nearby Hotel Labelle, and has restrictive clearance. We'd skip it for a polished hotel experience or if every adult needs a comfortable full-time bed.

• Best for: families wanting kitchen facilities; longer stays on a budget; sightseers using public transport

• Watch out for: dated interiors and uncomfortable sofa beds; possible siren or air-conditioning noise; paid off-site parking with low clearance

• Location: Near Berri-UQAM metro and the airport bus; Old Montreal is walkable.

• Rooms: Useful studios and spacious suites; dated finishes, some cramped bathrooms and weaker sofa beds.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength in recent Booking.com and Expedia feedback.

• Service: Generally helpful and friendly, with occasional less-positive front-desk experiences.

• Amenities: Continental breakfast, free Wi-Fi, kitchen facilities in most units and coin-operated laundry.

• Fees and surprises: Credit-card deposit required; nearby parking costs extra, is not guaranteed and has a 1.76-metre height limit.
