Axel's take: 8.9/10

Spacious, stylish suites make Gault a strong pick, with a summer cooling caveat. an upscale 4-star boutique hotel in Old Montreal, scored for what it is.

Hotel Gault is an upscale 4-star boutique hotel with 30 suites behind a historic Old Montreal façade. It’s a strong pick for travelers who prefer generous, minimalist rooms to big-hotel bustle. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the spotless interiors, comfortable beds and helpful staff, while the location makes restaurants, sights and the metro easy to reach on foot. The entrance, lobby and library were refreshed in 2025.

The main reservation is summer cooling: several July 2026 guests across both sites describe rooms too warm for comfortable sleep, and management acknowledges that the central air-conditioning can struggle in extreme heat. Breakfast and valet parking cost extra unless included in your package. We’d choose it for a design-minded city break, but heat-sensitive sleepers should be cautious about midsummer stays.

• Best for: couples exploring Old Montreal; travelers who appreciate minimalist design; business travelers wanting spacious rooms

• Watch out for: air-conditioning can struggle in summer heat; breakfast and valet parking usually extra

• Location: Walkable Old Montreal setting near restaurants, the convention center and metro stations.

• Rooms: Generous, minimalist suites; recurring summer 2026 complaints about inadequate cooling.

• Cleanliness: Consistently strong praise for spotless rooms across Tripadvisor and Expedia.

• Service: Helpful, professional staff dominate recent feedback, despite occasional contrary reports.

• Amenities: 24-hour gym and room service, library, restaurant and bar; some suites have terraces.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast, valet parking and pets carry extra charges; lobby and library renovations finished in March 2025.
