Axel's take: 8.4/10

A dependable downtown base with spacious rooms and a useful pool. a practical 4-star downtown chain hotel, scored for what it is.

This practical 4-star is a strong pick for exploring Montréal without relying on a car. It delivers mid-range comfort rather than luxury, with McGill, Place des Arts and metro stations nearby. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean, spacious rooms and helpful staff; recent reviews remain reassuring on those basics. The indoor rooftop pool, hot tub and gym give it an edge for families, while in-room fridges and microwaves make longer stays easier.

The trade-off is personality: rooms are functional rather than stylish, and some guests find them dated or basic for the price. Breakfast and parking cost extra, and several drivers describe the underground garage as tight. Light sleepers should request a quiet room. We'd skip it for boutique atmosphere, but choose it for dependable downtown convenience.

• Best for: families wanting a pool; McGill visitors; car-free city breaks

• Watch out for: breakfast and parking cost extra; tight underground garage; some reports of room noise

• Location: Walkable downtown setting near McGill, Place des Arts and metro stations; Old Montréal is farther away.

• Rooms: Generally spacious and comfortable, with fridges and microwaves; décor is more functional than distinctive.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across guest reviews, including recent Expedia feedback.

• Service: Helpful, welcoming staff receive repeated praise, including for resolving practical problems.

• Amenities: Indoor rooftop pool, hot tub, gym, free Wi-Fi and Circos restaurant; not an outdoor-pool resort.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast and covered self-parking are extra; larger vehicles may find the garage awkward.
