#5 of 9 hotels in Porta Venezia by Axel's take. Porta Venezia is #7 of 11 places to stay in Milan. The best hotels in Porta Venezia, ranked · Where to stay in Milan

Axel's take: 7.6/10

A useful Milan base, with compact rooms and some uneven edges. a practical, family-run 3-star near Repubblica and Milano Centrale, scored for what it is.

Hotel Sempione is a family-run 3-star superior whose strongest selling point is convenience: Repubblica’s transport links are close, and Milano Centrale is roughly a 10-minute walk. We'd consider it for a short city break or rail stopover rather than a hotel-focused stay. Booking.com and Expedia both average 8.0, with guests frequently praising clean rooms, helpful reception staff and easy access around Milan.

The compromises are compact bedrooms and bathrooms, plus recurring reports of street or building noise. Breakfast divides opinion: plenty of guests enjoy it, while recent Tripadvisor reviewers find the choice limited and the breakfast room cramped. Service and housekeeping also attract some sharper complaints there, although the broader cleanliness picture is positive. We'd skip it if spacious rooms, dependable quiet or consistently polished service matter most.

  • Best for: short Milan city breaks; rail travelers using Milano Centrale; travelers prioritizing transport access

  • Watch out for: compact rooms and bathrooms; street and building noise; mixed breakfast and service reports

  • Location: Close to Repubblica metro and suburban trains; roughly 10 minutes on foot from Centrale.

  • Rooms: Functional and compact; recent guests differ on quietness and bed comfort.

  • Cleanliness: Strong overall ratings, despite some recent Tripadvisor complaints about housekeeping.

  • Service: Reception earns frequent praise; less welcoming encounters also appear in recent reviews.

  • Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, breakfast buffet, bar, restaurant and luggage storage; partner garage nearby.

  • Fees and surprises: City tax is payable at the property; parking, pets and cribs carry additional charges.
