Axel's take: 8.1/10

A practical mall-connected base, with friendly staff but compact, awkwardly arranged rooms. a budget 3-star inside Plaza Galerías in northern Mérida, scored for what it is.

This budget 3-star inside Plaza Galerías is a strong pick for a short stay in northern Mérida, particularly for consulate appointments or events at Siglo XXI. Direct mall access makes meals and shopping easy, while included breakfast and free parking add practical value. Recent Expedia, Booking.com and Accor guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff; most also find the rooms clean and comfortable.

The compromises are mostly in the rooms: limited space, unconventional shower-and-toilet layouts and, in several Booking.com reviews, lighting or shower-maintenance issues. Breakfast wins plenty of praise but is not universally liked. We'd choose it for convenience rather than lingering in the room, and skip it if bathroom privacy, generous space or walking around Mérida's historic center is the priority.

• Best for: consulate and convention visitors; short stays in northern Mérida; travelers who value mall access

• Watch out for: compact rooms and awkward bathroom privacy; some recurring maintenance complaints; transport needed for historic-center sightseeing

• Location: Direct Plaza Galerías access; convenient for Siglo XXI and the consulate, not historic-center exploring on foot.

• Rooms: Simple, air-conditioned rooms; standard doubles start at 18 m², with unconventional bathroom layouts.

• Cleanliness: Mostly praised across sites, though some recent guests report housekeeping lapses or unpleasant odors.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are one of the most consistent strengths across recent reviews.

• Amenities: Included breakfast, free Wi-Fi, public parking and a bar with 24-hour snacks; breakfast feedback varies.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is free; pets incur an additional fee and require a deposit, according to Accor.
