Axel's take: 7.0/10

A practical central base, but room maintenance is the compromise. a no-frills budget hotel in Mérida’s historic center, scored for what it is.

Hotel Flamingo is a no-frills budget hotel in Mérida’s historic center, now part of Grupo Kavia. We’d consider it for a short sightseeing stay: the cathedral is about 300 meters away, and the hotel offers air-conditioned rooms, free Wi-Fi and an outdoor pool. Location is its clearest strength, while Booking.com and Expedia’s overall ratings suggest a generally satisfactory rather than standout stay.

The catch is inconsistent upkeep. Recent Booking.com and Expedia guests describe bathroom faults, unreliable air conditioning and unpleasant odors, alongside plenty of praise for clean rooms and helpful staff. Street-facing rooms can be noisy, and parking is off-site with limited availability. It’s a reasonable option if location matters more than polish; we’d skip it for light sleepers or anyone expecting dependable room condition throughout.

• Best for: budget-minded sightseers; short stays exploring on foot

• Watch out for: street noise in road-facing rooms; uneven bathroom and air-conditioning maintenance; limited off-site parking

• Location: Historic-center setting, about 300 meters from the cathedral; well suited to exploring on foot.

• Rooms: Simple air-conditioned rooms; recent guests report recurring bathroom, cooling and odor problems.

• Cleanliness: Generally positive aggregate cleanliness scores, but some recent guests describe dampness and drainage smells.

• Service: Many recent guests praise helpful staff, though friendliness and problem handling are inconsistent.

• Amenities: The official site confirms an outdoor pool, free Wi-Fi and 24-hour reception; breakfast is available.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast may cost extra; included parking is off-site, and guests report that spaces can run out.
