Axel's take: 8.5/10

Warm service and a leafy pool setting, with soundproofing the main weakness. a five-star business-style hotel in El Poblado, scored for what it is.

NH Collection Medellín Royal is a five-star business-style hotel that makes a strong base for El Poblado without needing to be the attraction itself. We'd choose it for the spacious rooms, garden-and-pool setting and easy walks to Santafé and Oviedo malls. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, comfortable beds and breakfast; cleanliness is another consistent strength across the major booking sites.

The reservation is sleep quality. Despite the hotel's soundproofing claims, several recent guests on Tripadvisor and Expedia describe hallway conversations and slamming doors carrying into rooms. A few also report noisy or ineffective air-conditioning. These aren't the dominant experience, but they matter at five-star expectations. It's a strong pick for business travelers and couples wanting comfort and shopping nearby; very light sleepers should look elsewhere.

• Best for: business travelers; couples wanting a pool and comfortable base; travelers prioritizing nearby shopping

• Watch out for: hallway noise and slamming doors; occasional air-conditioning complaints

• Location: El Poblado location within easy walking distance of Santafé and Oviedo shopping malls.

• Rooms: Spacious, work-friendly rooms with comfortable beds; sound insulation draws repeated criticism.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback, supported by high cleanliness ratings on Booking.com and Expedia.

• Service: Friendly, attentive staff are one of the most consistently praised features.

• Amenities: Outdoor pool, hot tub, spa, gym, restaurant and 24-hour room service.

• Fees and surprises: The hotel lists free guest parking; pets and airport transfers carry extra charges.
