Axel's take: 6.6/10

A handy budget base for nightlife, but comfort and quiet are inconsistent. a basic budget hotel on Medellín’s lively La 70, scored for what it is.

Hotel Villa Real is a basic budget hotel on La 70, best considered for its location rather than its rooms. Estadio metro, restaurants and nightlife are close by, and the stadium is within walking distance. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise that convenience; several also describe helpful reception staff. It's a workable pick for travelers who plan to spend little time indoors.

The compromises go beyond simple furnishings. Recent Expedia and Trip.com reviews mention street noise, uncomfortable mattresses and rooms without reliable air-conditioning. Cleanliness earns mixed feedback, and room condition varies enough that we'd confirm the exact room and cooling arrangements before booking. Ask for a room away from the street, though that won't guarantee silence. We'd skip it for light sleepers or anyone expecting consistently comfortable rooms.

• Best for: budget travelers exploring by metro; nightlife-focused short stays; stadium visitors

• Watch out for: nightlife noise and sound between rooms; missing or unreliable air-conditioning; uneven mattresses, upkeep and housekeeping

• Location: Close to Estadio metro, restaurants and bars; walkable to the stadium.

• Rooms: Very basic and unevenly maintained; confirm cooling and request a room away from the street.

• Cleanliness: Mixed guest feedback, including recent complaints about housekeeping and missing towels.

• Service: Helpful staff receive praise, but problem handling is not consistently reliable.

• Amenities: Listings include free Wi-Fi, a lift and 24-hour reception; don't assume every room has air-conditioning.

• Fees and surprises: Expedia lists a pet fee and garage parking; confirm parking availability and the final booking total directly.
