Axel's take: 8.5/10

A dependable El Poblado base with welcoming staff and breakfast above the city. a straightforward mid-range chain hotel in El Poblado, scored for what it is.

Hampton by Hilton Medellin is a straightforward mid-range hotel, not a luxury four-star, and we'd pick it for dependable comfort near Oviedo and Santafé malls. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, clean rooms and the included breakfast. The skyline views from the upper-floor breakfast area give this practical chain hotel some personality, while free Wi-Fi and parking round out a useful package.

The compromises are mostly about space and expectations: rooms are functional rather than generous, and some guests find the furnishings and bathroom extras basic. One recent Tripadvisor reviewer also found the gym small and dated. You're outside the main nightlife cluster, and the metro isn't on the doorstep. It's a strong pick for business trips and shopping-focused stays; we'd skip it for spacious rooms or a full-service luxury experience.

• Best for: business travelers; couples wanting a practical city base; shopping-focused stays

• Watch out for: compact, simply equipped rooms; metro requires a walk; outside the main nightlife cluster

• Location: Convenient for Oviedo and Santafé malls; Hilton places Zona Rosa nightlife about a mile away.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable and functional, with limited space and basic bathroom extras noted by some guests.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength in recent guest feedback, backed by strong Booking.com and Expedia cleanliness ratings.

• Service: Recent reviews repeatedly single out welcoming, helpful front-desk and breakfast staff.

• Amenities: Included hot breakfast, Wi-Fi, parking, restaurant, gym and rooftop hot tub; don't expect extensive leisure facilities.

• Fees and surprises: Airport transfers are not a complimentary inclusion; confirm availability and charges directly because listings differ.
