#3 of 3 hotels in Alliant Energy Center by Axel's take. Alliant Energy Center is #3 of 5 places to stay in Madison, Wisconsin. The best hotels in Alliant Energy Center, ranked · Where to stay in Madison, Wisconsin

Axel's take: 8.3/10

A strong event-weekend base with welcoming staff, but not a downtown doorstep. a full-service mid-range hotel across from Alliant Energy Center, scored for what it is.

Madison Marriott South, formerly the Sheraton, is a full-service mid-range hotel best suited to Alliant Energy Center visits rather than downtown wandering. Marriott advertises newly renovated rooms, and Expedia and Booking.com guests consistently praise cleanliness and helpful staff. We'd pick it for those dependable basics, free parking, and useful extras: an indoor pool, whirlpool, substantial gym and lobby bar.

The main compromise is location: central Madison requires a ride rather than a quick stroll. John Nolen Drive reconstruction is also disrupting downtown access, with traffic changes extending into spring 2027. Breakfast generally costs extra, and many two-bed rooms have doubles rather than queens. Guests often appreciate the shuttle, but Marriott's own website contradicts itself about availability, so confirm your route and timing directly. We'd skip it for a car-free trip centered on Capitol Square restaurants and nightlife.

  • Best for: Alliant Energy Center eventgoers; Business travelers with a car; Cyclists exploring Madison's trails

  • Watch out for: John Nolen Drive construction through spring 2027; Breakfast usually costs extra; Confirm shuttle availability and bed sizes

  • Location: Across from Alliant Energy Center and near bike trails; outside the walkable downtown core.

  • Rooms: Advertised as newly renovated; generally comfortable, but many two-bed categories contain doubles.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across booking-site reviews, despite occasional housekeeping misses.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful staff are the most consistent point of praise across sources.

  • Amenities: Indoor pool, whirlpool, large gym, café and lobby bar; confirm shuttle arrangements directly.

  • Fees and surprises: Free self-parking; breakfast generally extra, club access restricted, and no on-site EV charging.
