#1 of 5 hotels in UW Campus & State Street by Axel's take. UW Campus & State Street is #2 of 5 places to stay in Madison, Wisconsin. The best hotels in UW Campus & State Street, ranked · Where to stay in Madison, Wisconsin

Axel's take: 9.1/10

Standout staff and cleanliness make this a strong downtown base. a full-service 4-star downtown hotel near UW–Madison, scored for what it is.

This full-service 4-star is a strong pick for UW–Madison visits, Kohl Center events and exploring downtown on foot. Its appeal is practical rather than luxurious: comfortable rooms, a useful restaurant and unusually consistent praise for the people running it. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly highlight cleanliness, comfortable beds and welcoming staff. The complimentary airport and local shuttle adds convenience, especially if you'd rather leave the car behind.

The main trade-offs are straightforward: parking costs extra, breakfast isn't automatically included, and there's no pool. Hilton lists limited shuttle hours, so confirm arrangements for early flights. We'd choose it for a campus visit or business trip, but skip it if a pool, bundled breakfast or a more distinctive luxury setting matters most.

Best for: UW–Madison visitors; Kohl Center eventgoers; Downtown business trips
Watch out for: Paid parking; Breakfast not automatically included; No pool; limited shuttle hours
Location: Walkable to UW–Madison, State Street and the Kohl Center.
Rooms: Comfortable, practical rooms; guest feedback is particularly strong on beds.
Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Expedia and recent Hotels.com reviews.
Service: Friendly, helpful staff are the clearest recurring highlight.
Amenities: Bistro 525, fitness center, free Wi-Fi and complimentary airport/local shuttle; no pool.
Fees and surprises: Self-parking is charged; check breakfast inclusion and confirm shuttle hours before arrival.
