Axel's take: 7.6/10

Good budget basics and friendly service, but road construction makes access a real headache. A simple 2-star, exterior-corridor motel beside I-35, scored for what it is.

Best Western Garden Inn is a simple 2-star, exterior-corridor motel on San Antonio’s northeast side. It’s a good budget option if you have a car and want comfortable basics rather than downtown atmosphere. Expedia and Booking.com guests repeatedly praise clean, spacious rooms and helpful front-desk staff. Free parking, breakfast and an outdoor pool round out a practical package.

The biggest drawback is ongoing I-35 road construction: reviews through October 2026 describe frontage-road closures and difficult detours reaching the property. Ask the desk for current access directions before arriving. Breakfast is basic, with several guests reporting a short serving window, and recent Expedia reviews say the communal hot tub has been removed despite lingering listings. We’d skip it for a walkable River Walk trip or if straightforward late-night access matters most.

• Best for: Budget travelers with a car; Short stays in northeast San Antonio; Families visiting Morgan’s Wonderland

• Watch out for: I-35 construction and frontage-road closures; Basic breakfast with limited serving hours; Communal hot tub reportedly removed

• Location: Practical northeast-side base, about 15 miles from the River Walk; construction complicates arrival.

• Rooms: Generally spacious and comfortable, with microwaves and refrigerators; condition varies between guest reports.

• Cleanliness: Mostly praised across sites, with some reports of musty smells and missed cleaning details.

• Service: Friendly, helpful front-desk staff are the most consistent strength.

• Amenities: Outdoor pool, fitness room, free Wi-Fi and breakfast; do not count on a communal hot tub.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is free; Booking.com lists a refundable damage deposit, and current access directions are worth requesting.
