Axel's take: 5.4/10

Useful roadside basics, but cleanliness and maintenance make this a gamble. a no-frills 2-star interstate motel, scored for what it is.

This is a no-frills 2-star Motel 6 beside I-35, not the Red Roof Inn still named in some listings. Free parking, pet-friendly policies and nearby restaurants give it practical appeal for a short stop. Some recent guests praise clean rooms and helpful staff, but the overall picture is sharply divided: Google is considerably more positive than Booking.com and Expedia. We'd treat it as a fallback rather than a dependable budget pick.

The concern isn't missing luxuries. Recent reviews across booking sites describe dirty linens, poorly cleaned bathrooms, bugs and malfunctioning room equipment. Fridges and microwaves are advertised, but some guests report missing units; confirm your room's setup and the check-in deposit. Nearby I-35 NEX Central construction also means checking access before arrival. We'd skip it if consistent cleanliness matters more than keeping costs down.

• Best for: budget drivers needing a short stop; travelers with pets

• Watch out for: recurring cleanliness and bug complaints; missing or malfunctioning room equipment; nearby I-35 NEX Central road construction

• Location: Roadside northeast San Antonio base near Morgan's Wonderland; better suited to drivers than downtown sightseeing.

• Rooms: Basic rooms advertise microwaves and mini-fridges, but recent guests report missing units and maintenance problems.

• Cleanliness: Some guests find clean rooms, but dirty linens, bathrooms and bugs recur in recent reviews.

• Service: Helpful staff earn praise, though complaint handling and housekeeping follow-through are inconsistent.

• Amenities: Free parking and Wi-Fi, pets allowed and coin laundry; no pool or breakfast listed.

• Fees and surprises: A check-in deposit is listed; confirm equipment and laundry availability, and check construction-related road access.
