Axel's take: 8.0/10

A solid budget stop for drivers who prioritize clean rooms over extras. a no-frills budget motel in northeast San Antonio, scored for what it is.

American Motel is a no-frills budget motel in northeast San Antonio, and we'd consider it for a simple overnight stop. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and friendly owners; recent Expedia reviews through July 2026 largely reinforce that picture. Free parking, in-room microwaves and refrigerators make it practical for travelers with a car. It's good for the money, provided you expect an older motel rather than a polished hotel.

The trade-offs are dated interiors, few extras and a location better suited to driving than exploring downtown on foot. Wi-Fi earns noticeably weaker marks on Booking.com, so we'd avoid relying on it for work. Breakfast isn't provided. Wheelchair users should verify the exact room layout before booking: a March 2026 guest reported that the advertised accessible accommodation did not meet their needs.

• Best for: budget-conscious drivers; overnight road-trip stops; short northeast San Antonio visits

• Watch out for: weak Wi-Fi feedback; dated rooms and limited extras; verify wheelchair accessibility directly

• Location: Near I-35 in northeast San Antonio; better for motorists than a walkable downtown stay.

• Rooms: Older, simply furnished rooms with microwaves and refrigerators; comfort receives generally positive feedback.

• Cleanliness: A recurring strength in Booking.com feedback and recent Expedia reviews.

• Service: Friendly, helpful owners and staff are the most consistent positives alongside cleanliness.

• Amenities: Free parking and advertised Wi-Fi; no breakfast, and little beyond the overnight basics.

• Fees and surprises: Confirm any deposit and smoking preference directly; listings disagree on whether the entire property is smoke-free.
