Axel's take: 8.9/10

A strong Lisbon luxury pick for attentive service, spotless rooms and proper downtime. a boutique-style 5-star city hotel just off Avenida da Liberdade, scored for what it is.

PortoBay Liberdade is a boutique-style 5-star just off Avenida da Liberdade, and we'd shortlist it for a comfortable Lisbon city break. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests consistently praise attentive staff, thorough housekeeping, comfortable beds and an excellent breakfast. The indoor pool, spa and rooftop terrace with a whirlpool give it more appeal between sightseeing outings than a straightforward city hotel.

The main trade-offs are space and setting: entry-level Classic rooms start at 20 square meters, and you're outside the historic center's busiest streets rather than immersed in them. An April 2026 Tripadvisor guest reported construction across the road; its current status is unconfirmed, so light sleepers should check before booking. Breakfast isn't included in every booking, and parking costs extra. Choose it for service and relaxation; skip it if you want a sprawling room or an old-town doorstep.

• Best for: couples on a comfortable city break; travelers who value attentive service; sightseeing with pool and spa downtime

• Watch out for: compact entry-level rooms; check nearby construction status; breakfast and parking can cost extra

• Location: Just off Avenida da Liberdade, near metro connections and about a kilometer from the historic center.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds and balconies in most rooms; Classic rooms measure 20–27 square meters.

• Cleanliness: A standout strength, with consistently strong housekeeping feedback across Tripadvisor and Expedia.

• Service: Friendly, attentive staff are among the most consistently praised features.

• Amenities: Indoor heated pool, spa, sauna, steam room, gym and rooftop whirlpool; rooftop bar service is seasonal.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is paid and breakfast depends on the booking; construction opposite was reported in April 2026, with current status unconfirmed.
