Axel's take: 8.8/10

A stylish Lisbon base with excellent comfort, but boutique proportions rather than grand-hotel facilities. an adults-only five-star boutique hotel near Avenida da Liberdade, scored for what it is.

Brown’s Avenue is an adults-only five-star boutique hotel just off Avenida da Liberdade, and it’s a strong pick for a design-minded city break. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise cleanliness, comfortable rooms and helpful staff; Tripadvisor reviews also highlight breakfast and the restaurant. The library lounge and honesty bar give it character beyond the bedrooms. We’d choose it for an intimate, well-located stay rather than a full-service luxury retreat.

The main trade-off is scale: the rooftop pool is for cooling off, not swimming laps, and entry-level rooms can be compact. Most service feedback is excellent, though some recent guests describe less attentive treatment. A current booking listing also warns of construction next door and possible daytime noise; confirm its status before booking. Skip it if generous space, extensive facilities or guaranteed daytime quiet are priorities.

• Best for: couples on a Lisbon city break; design-minded travelers; adults seeking a smaller luxury hotel

• Watch out for: small rooftop pool and lounging area; compact entry-level rooms; listing warns of neighboring construction; confirm status

• Location: Just off Avenida da Liberdade, close to Avenida metro and within walking distance of Rossio.

• Rooms: Distinctive furnishings and strong comfort feedback; choose the category carefully if space matters.

• Cleanliness: A clear strength, with consistently high cleanliness scores on Booking.com and Expedia.

• Service: Overwhelmingly praised overall, with a minority of recent Tripadvisor guests reporting dismissive front-desk treatment.

• Amenities: Small rooftop pool, library honesty bar, restaurant, room service and private parking.

• Fees and surprises: City tax applies; parking and airport transfers cost extra, and breakfast inclusion depends on your booking.
