#1 of 7 hotels in Ikoyi by Axel's take. Ikoyi is #2 of 6 places to stay in Lagos, Nigeria. The best hotels in Ikoyi, ranked · Where to stay in Lagos, Nigeria

Axel's take: 8.4/10

A strong Ikoyi choice for quiet comfort, with some gaps in five-star polish. an independent five-star boutique hotel in residential Ikoyi, scored for what it is.

The George is a 61-room, five-star boutique hotel in residential Ikoyi, and we'd shortlist it for a quieter business stay. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and welcoming staff, including employees who remember returning visitors. The outdoor pool, gym and intimate scale make it appealing if you prefer a smaller hotel to a sprawling resort.

The caveat is consistency rather than a major recurring fault. Some guests describe slow follow-through on requests or disappointing menu availability, and Booking.com's overall feedback is noticeably less enthusiastic than Tripadvisor's and Expedia's. Entry-level Classic rooms are only 25 square meters, so don't assume five-star means spacious. We'd skip it if you want generous standard rooms and faultless service; it's stronger on calm, cleanliness and personal warmth.

  • Best for: business travelers visiting Ikoyi; couples seeking a quieter city stay; travelers who prefer smaller hotels

  • Watch out for: compact entry-level Classic rooms; occasional service and dining inconsistencies; breakfast inclusion varies by booking

  • Location: Residential Lugard Avenue in Ikoyi; a quieter setting with access to business districts.

  • Rooms: Classic rooms measure 25 square meters; Classic Studios offer approximately 37 square meters.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength in recent Tripadvisor and Expedia feedback.

  • Service: Warm, personal attention earns frequent praise, though requests occasionally need chasing.

  • Amenities: Outdoor pool, gym, restaurant, meeting facilities, free Wi-Fi and 24-hour room service.

  • Fees and surprises: Expedia lists breakfast and airport transfers as chargeable; self-parking is free.
