Axel's take: 7.7/10

Good space and excellent transport links, but the rooms show their age. A practical, older 4-star hotel near Quarry Bay MTR, scored for what it is.

Harbour Plaza North Point is a practical, older 4-star on eastern Hong Kong Island: a good-value base rather than a hotel to book for polished interiors. Quarry Bay MTR’s Exit C is about two minutes away, with trams and buses close by. Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff and comfortable, generously sized rooms. The seasonal 25-metre outdoor pool and gym add useful substance to the four-star label.

The main compromise is condition: recent guests still describe tired furniture and dated bathrooms, and room quality appears uneven. Cleanliness is generally rated positively, rather than uniformly faultless; Wi-Fi also attracts recurring criticism. Bottled water costs extra, and the pool is seasonal. We’d choose it for space and transport convenience, but skip it if fresh interiors, dependable connectivity or walking straight into the main sightseeing districts matter most.

• Best for: Value-minded city explorers; Business travelers visiting Quarry Bay; Longer stays needing more space

• Watch out for: Dated rooms and uneven condition; Inconsistent Wi-Fi; Seasonal pool opening

• Location: Near Quarry Bay MTR Exit C, with buses and trams nearby; outside the main sightseeing core.

• Rooms: Comfortable and relatively spacious, but recurring reports of tired furnishings and bathrooms.

• Cleanliness: Mostly positive across sites, with some exceptions; wear is the more consistent complaint.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a recurring strength across Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor.

• Amenities: Seasonal 25-metre outdoor pool, gym, sauna, café and lounge; selected studios and suites have kitchen facilities.

• Fees and surprises: Bottled water and parking cost extra; check whether breakfast, service charge and accommodation tax are included.
