Axel's take: 8.3/10

A strong-value city base with roomy accommodation and excellent transport, but check construction first. a simple mid-range hotel in Sai Ying Pun, scored for what it is.

Eco Tree is a simple mid-range hotel in Sai Ying Pun, despite the Sheung Wan name, and a strong pick for travelers prioritizing room comfort over facilities. Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor guests broadly agree on the strengths: clean rooms, helpful staff and more space than many expect in Hong Kong. Sai Ying Pun MTR exit A2 is right beside the hotel, with trams and buses outside. We'd choose it as a practical sightseeing base rather than somewhere to spend the day.

The main caution is noise: Booking.com currently lists maintenance and construction within and near the hotel, without an end date, and some guests report traffic or tram noise. Ask what work affects your dates. Facilities are limited, with no pool or breakfast service. We'd skip it for a resort-style stay or if guaranteed quiet matters more than transport convenience.

• Best for: value-minded sightseeing trips; travelers using public transport; families booking larger rooms or suites

• Watch out for: maintenance and construction notice with no end date; possible traffic and tram noise; no pool or breakfast service

• Location: Beside Sai Ying Pun MTR exit A2, with nearby restaurants and excellent tram and bus connections.

• Rooms: The hotel lists 220-square-foot Superior rooms and larger Deluxe rooms; sea-view options and family suites are available.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across booking sites, supported by recent guest praise.

• Service: Recent reviews mostly praise welcoming, helpful reception and housekeeping staff.

• Amenities: Free Wi-Fi and 24-hour reception cover the basics; no pool or breakfast service.

• Fees and surprises: A refundable damage deposit is required; Booking.com says card reimbursement can take up to 14 days.
