Axel's take: 8.5/10

A dependable Zona 9 base with generous rooms, helpful staff and some aircraft noise. a simple, independent 3-star in Zona 9, scored for what it is.

Hotel Residencia Del Sol is a simple, independent 3-star in Guatemala City’s financial district, and a strong pick for practical stays rather than hotel luxuries. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the cleanliness, spacious rooms and helpful staff, including assistance with early-morning transport. Gardens and shaded balconies add character, while free parking and Wi-Fi make it a useful business or airport-stopover base.

The compromises are older bathrooms, limited breakfast choice and aircraft noise that some guests find disruptive. Air-conditioning is not standard across room types, so confirm it directly rather than assuming it is included. We'd choose it for space, service and straightforward comfort; light sleepers and travelers wanting consistently modern finishes should look elsewhere.

• Best for: business travelers in Zona 9; airport stopovers; travelers prioritizing room space

• Watch out for: aircraft noise; air-conditioning varies by room; older bathrooms and limited breakfast choice

• Location: Financial-district base near Avenida La Reforma; useful for airport access, but aircraft noise is reported.

• Rooms: Guests praise the space and comfortable beds; finishes can feel dated, and air-conditioning needs confirming.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall cleanliness feedback, with occasional complaints about bathroom condition.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a consistent strength, particularly with transport arrangements.

• Amenities: Garden, shaded balconies, free Wi-Fi and parking; breakfast is offered, but choice can be limited.

• Fees and surprises: Airport pickup carries an extra charge; confirm breakfast inclusion and room-specific air-conditioning before booking.
