Axel's take: 8.2/10

A strong-value downtown base, provided you can tolerate some noise and compact rooms. a simple, design-minded mid-range hotel in downtown Guadalajara, scored for what it is.

Perla Central is a simple, design-minded mid-range hotel that makes a strong base for exploring Guadalajara without overspending. The cathedral and historic-center sights are within walking distance, and the colorful local-themed interiors give it more personality than a generic budget stay. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise cleanliness, comfortable beds and helpful staff. A restaurant, gym and complimentary parking add useful substance to the value proposition.

The compromises are worth knowing: entry-level rooms are compact, and guest reports flag street and hallway noise. Bathroom drain odors also recur across Tripadvisor and Expedia, although overall cleanliness feedback remains strong. Breakfast is not automatically included, so check your booking carefully. We'd choose it for sightseeing and practical comfort, but skip it if quiet nights, spacious rooms or a polished neighborhood setting are priorities.

• Best for: value-conscious city explorers; couples on short sightseeing stays; travelers needing downtown parking

• Watch out for: street and hallway noise; compact entry-level rooms; recurring bathroom drain-odor reports

• Location: Walkable to the cathedral and historic sights, with transit nearby; expect a busy downtown setting.

• Rooms: Comfortable, air-conditioned and individually decorated; standard Queen and King rooms are notably compact.

• Cleanliness: Generally a consistent strength, though bathroom odor complaints appear on more than one site.

• Service: Helpful staff attract frequent praise, with occasional less-positive reception experiences.

• Amenities: Restaurant, gym, free Wi-Fi and complimentary parking; Expedia notes parking capacity is limited.

• Fees and surprises: Buffet breakfast costs extra unless included in your booking; airport transfers carry a charge.
