Axel's take: 8.4/10

A strong downtown base with comfortable rooms, helpful staff and pricey parking. a modern 3-star downtown hotel with spacious rooms, scored for what it is.

This modern 3-star is a strong pick for exploring Grand Rapids without driving everywhere. Recent Tripadvisor and Google guests repeatedly praise the walkable location, comfortable beds and helpful staff. Rooms offer sofa seating and floor-to-ceiling windows, making this more comfortable than a basic overnight stop. Hyatt currently includes breakfast, and the indoor lap pool and 24-hour gym round out a useful mid-range package.

The biggest catch is the paid garage: convenient once you're settled, but expensive, with some guests finding the arrival route and second-floor reception confusing. Traffic noise can intrude, and scattered recent reports flag maintenance and housekeeping misses, though clean-room praise remains much more common. We'd choose it for concerts, conventions or a downtown weekend; light sleepers and drivers wanting free parking should look elsewhere.

• Best for: concert and convention visitors; car-free downtown weekends; families wanting sofa-bed rooms

• Watch out for: expensive garage parking; traffic noise in some rooms; potentially confusing arrival and second-floor reception

• Location: Walkable to restaurants, the art museum, Van Andel Arena and DeVos Place.

• Rooms: Spacious layouts with sofa seating; comfortable beds, with occasional maintenance complaints.

• Cleanliness: Predominantly positive recent feedback, with scattered housekeeping lapses.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a consistent strength across guest reviews.

• Amenities: Free breakfast, indoor lap pool, 24-hour gym and lobby bar with a limited food menu.

• Fees and surprises: Garage parking and dog stays cost extra; reception is on the second floor.
