Axel's take: 8.1/10

Grand public spaces and downtown convenience, but rooms don't always match the entrance. a historic, full-service 4-star hotel on the downtown riverfront, scored for what it is.

Amway Grand Plaza is a historic, full-service 4-star combining the ornate Pantlind building with a modern glass tower. It's a strong pick for downtown events: the riverfront location and indoor skywalk connections make getting around easy. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, comfortable beds and the impressive public spaces. Restaurants, bars, an indoor pool and a spa give it more substance than just a handsome lobby.

The main compromise is room consistency. Reviews across both sites mention smaller bathrooms, dated furnishings and occasional noise; cleanliness feedback is predominantly positive, despite some lapses. Parking carries a substantial nightly charge. The hotel's website currently flags valet motor-lobby renovation and possible delays, while Expedia lists work affecting select guestrooms and a dining venue through January 2028. We'd choose it for character and convenience, but skip it if uniformly modern rooms or a reliably quiet daytime retreat are priorities.

  • Best for: Convention and concert visitors; Couples who enjoy historic hotels; Travelers wanting restaurants and bars on site

  • Watch out for: Valet entrance, guestroom and dining renovations; Variable room condition and soundproofing; Substantial nightly parking charges

  • Location: Central riverfront setting with skywalk access to downtown event venues.

  • Rooms: Historic and tower accommodations vary; some guests report small bathrooms, worn furnishings and noise.

  • Cleanliness: Strong overall guest ratings, with occasional housekeeping lapses rather than a dominant pattern.

  • Service: Recent reviews consistently praise friendly, attentive front-desk and bell staff.

  • Amenities: Indoor pool, fitness center, spa, multiple dining venues and rooftop pickleball courts.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking and pets cost extra; renovation may disrupt arrivals. Expedia also lists a December 20–25, 2026 closure; confirm directly.
