#9 of 9 hotels in Downtown Grand Rapids by Axel's take. Downtown Grand Rapids is #1 of 5 places to stay in Grand Rapids. The best hotels in Downtown Grand Rapids, ranked · Where to stay in Grand Rapids

Axel's take: 7.9/10

A convenient downtown base, but tired rooms and awkward parking hold it back. a mid-range 3-star Marriott hotel in downtown Grand Rapids, scored for what it is.

This mid-range 3-star Marriott is a good pick for concerts, conventions and exploring downtown without driving. The location does the heavy lifting: Van Andel Arena is close, and skywalk connections make bad-weather outings easier. Booking.com and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff and clean, comfortable rooms, while Expedia's overall ratings remain strong. We'd choose it for convenience rather than design or standout facilities.

The drawbacks are recurring: worn furnishings, expensive and sometimes confusing parking, and breakfast that costs extra. Several 2026 guests report hot-tub closures, so confirm both the hot tub and indoor pool are operating before booking around them. Busy-event check-in delays also feature in reviews. Management says a renovation covering guestrooms, bathrooms and common areas is planned to begin in January 2027. We'd skip it for a polished getaway or a pool-focused family break.

  • Best for: Van Andel Arena concertgoers; Convention travelers; Car-light downtown weekends

  • Watch out for: Paid, limited parking; Worn rooms; renovation planned for January 2027; Repeated hot-tub closure reports

  • Location: Central downtown location with restaurants nearby and useful skywalk connections.

  • Rooms: Generally comfortable, but recurring reports describe scratched furniture and dated finishes.

  • Cleanliness: Strong overall cleanliness ratings, with some recent lapses rather than a dominant pattern.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful staff earn consistent praise; event-day room readiness can be uneven.

  • Amenities: Bistro, gym and indoor pool; confirm pool and hot-tub availability directly.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking and breakfast cost extra; management plans a substantial renovation beginning January 2027.
