Axel's take: 8.2/10

Come for the pyramid views and welcoming staff, but choose your room carefully. a small budget hotel facing the Sphinx and pyramids, scored for what it is.

The Gate is a small budget hotel whose main attraction genuinely delivers: terraces looking straight toward the Sphinx and pyramids. We'd pick it for a short, sightseeing-focused stay rather than resort comforts. Booking.com and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise the views and welcoming staff, and many find the rooms clean and comfortable. Breakfast with that backdrop is a strong selling point.

Room choice matters: standard rooms can be windowless, while selected suites have panoramic views and private terraces. There is no elevator, and some guests report noise, uneven housekeeping, and occasional hot-water or plumbing problems. Those complaints don't dominate the overall feedback, but they make this less dependable than the photographs suggest. We'd skip it if stairs are difficult or uninterrupted sleep and consistently polished rooms are priorities.

• Best for: pyramid-focused short stays; budget travelers prioritizing views; families booking a view suite

• Watch out for: windowless standard rooms; stairs with no elevator; occasional housekeeping and plumbing issues

• Location: Faces the Sphinx side of the pyramid complex; the terrace outlook is its biggest strength.

• Rooms: Basic standard rooms and larger view suites offer substantially different experiences; check the exact category.

• Cleanliness: Generally positive feedback, but housekeeping and bathroom complaints recur across booking sites.

• Service: Warm, helpful staff earn consistent praise, particularly for arrivals and transport arrangements.

• Amenities: Two viewing terraces, dining, air conditioning and Wi-Fi; recent feedback on internet reliability is mixed.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast inclusion depends on the booking; airport transfers cost extra, and there is no elevator.
