Axel's take: 6.7/10

A workable budget base, but uneven housekeeping makes it a cautious pick. a no-frills 1-star hotel in Agouza, scored for what it is.

Regency is a no-frills 1-star in Agouza, best treated as somewhere to sleep between outings rather than a hotel to linger in. Booking.com and Expedia ratings sit around seven out of ten, and helpful staff are a recurring strength. Some guests also praise spacious rooms and convenient access to central Cairo. We'd consider it for a short, budget-minded stay if this neighborhood suits your plans.

The catch is consistency. Cleanliness complaints recur across sites, including recent Expedia reviews, despite other guests reporting clean, comfortable stays. Agoda feedback also flags worn furniture and weak air-conditioning, while Booking.com's Wi-Fi scores are poor. We'd skip it if dependable housekeeping or reliable internet is essential; otherwise, check the room and cooling before settling in.

• Best for: budget travelers on short stays; visitors with plans in Agouza

• Watch out for: uneven housekeeping; poor Wi-Fi ratings; worn furnishings and variable air-conditioning

• Location: Agouza base for Cairo outings, not a pyramids-side hotel.

• Rooms: Some guests praise the space; others report tired furniture and inadequate cooling.

• Cleanliness: Mixed reports, with repeated complaints alongside positive accounts.

• Service: Helpful staff are a recurring positive, though experiences are not uniformly good.

• Amenities: Listings include a lift, bar, laundry and 24-hour reception; Wi-Fi scores poorly.

• Fees and surprises: Bring cash for extras; Expedia lists no on-site parking, and check-in times differ between sites.
