#3 of 7 hotels in Murrayfield & Corstorphine by Axel's take. Murrayfield & Corstorphine is #7 of 7 places to stay in Edinburgh. The best hotels in Murrayfield & Corstorphine, ranked · Where to stay in Edinburgh

Axel's take: 8.4/10

A friendly pub stay with clean rooms, but pack light and expect late breakfast. a small pub-with-rooms in suburban Corstorphine, scored for what it is.

The Torfin is a small pub-with-rooms in Corstorphine, rather than a full-service city hotel. It's a strong pick for a short Edinburgh stay if you're happy taking the bus into town. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise the cleanliness, helpful staff and food downstairs; Tripadvisor guests also highlight welcoming service. Scottish-themed bedrooms, monsoon showers and a proper restaurant give this simple inn more personality than a standard budget hotel.

The main compromise is space: several recent guests describe rooms as small, especially with luggage, and they're upstairs without a lift. Some Tripadvisor guests report road or bar noise, although others find their rooms quiet. The hotel says breakfast rolls start only at 10am and breakfast isn't included. We'd skip it for step-free access, early breakfasts or sightseeing entirely on foot.

  • Best for: couples on short breaks; travelers with dogs; pub-and-food enthusiasts

  • Watch out for: small rooms and stairs only; possible road and bar noise; breakfast starts at 10am

  • Location: Corstorphine, near Edinburgh Zoo, with buses nearby for city-center visits.

  • Rooms: Individually themed doubles and kings with monsoon showers; luggage space can be tight.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength, with repeated recent praise for clean rooms and bathrooms.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful staff are frequently praised; arrange late arrivals ahead.

  • Amenities: Restaurant, bar, terrace and free Wi-Fi; all bedrooms are dog-friendly.

  • Fees and surprises: Breakfast is extra; a pet cleaning charge applies, with differing amounts listed by the hotel and Expedia.
