#1 of 9 hotels in West End & Haymarket by Axel's take. West End & Haymarket is #4 of 7 places to stay in Edinburgh. The best hotels in West End & Haymarket, ranked · Where to stay in Edinburgh

Axel's take: 9.2/10

A standout West End base for thoughtful service, comfortable rooms and independent city stays. a contemporary 4-star hotel with mini-kitchens in Edinburgh’s West End, scored for what it is.

The Resident Edinburgh is a contemporary 4-star that gets the essentials unusually right. Recent Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise helpful staff, spotless rooms and comfortable beds. Every room has a practical mini-kitchen with a microwave, fridge and coffee machine, making this a strong pick for longer stays. The West End setting puts cafés, Princes Street and Dean Village close by without placing you in the Old Town crowds. Guests also repeatedly appreciate the complimentary early-evening drinks.

The trade-off is a deliberately limited-service setup: there’s no hotel restaurant or breakfast service, so plan on local cafés or preparing something simple. Entry-level rooms are compact, and the kitchenettes aren’t full cooking facilities. We’d skip it if you want a full-service hotel or the Royal Mile immediately outside; otherwise, it’s an excellent city base.

  • Best for: couples exploring on foot; longer city stays; travelers who prefer eating locally

  • Watch out for: compact entry-level rooms; no hotel restaurant or breakfast service; no on-site parking

  • Location: Quieter West End base near Princes Street and Dean Village, rather than amid the Old Town crowds.

  • Rooms: Modern, comfortable rooms with mini-kitchens; Standard Doubles start at a compact 17 square meters.

  • Cleanliness: Consistently strong cleanliness feedback across Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia.

  • Service: Friendly, proactive staff are the most consistently praised feature.

  • Amenities: In-room mini-kitchens, lounge, library and evening drinks; dining is centered on nearby cafés and restaurants.

  • Fees and surprises: Dogs incur a nightly supplement; parking is off-site, and check whether Edinburgh’s visitor levy is included.
